Enzo finds relief at Black Dog Rehab

Posted 1 May, 2017

Enzo GoodwineKim Goodwine shares Enzo's hearbreaking story, "We adopted Enzo from the Stafford Animal Shelter because we had become interested in the Spinone Italiano breed and read a Stafford ad in The Enterprise listing a Spinone as a stray. His owners never came to claim him, so Bob and I jumped at the chance to adopt him, even though we already had two golden retrievers at home. He was, at best guess, about three years old when we adopted him and we had him for about two years before he suffered some sort of injury that caused him a tremendous amount of pain whenever he tried to get up from a laying position. Our vet, Dr. McCormick helped us manage his pain hoping he would recover from whatever injury it was that was causing it."

She says, "We were still in the early stages of working with Dr. McCormick to diagnose exactly what was going on when he referred us to Darcy and Black Dog Rehab and we were so happy he did. In the short time Darcy worked with Enzo, she was able to bring him amazing relief. Ultimately, it was decided that Enzo was suffering from something neurological and Dr. McCormick recommended that we take him to the Washington State University School of Veterinary Medicine for an MRI and further diagnostics. In the course of getting the arrangements made for this trip Enzo's pain became too great for us to consider making that trip for him, and we decided to put him to rest. This was gut wrenching in that we had guilt for not getting him to WSU fast enough for more advanced treatment. We did have comfort in knowing that both Dr. McCormick and Darcy did everything in their power to help us find relief for Enzo while we were trying to find answers, for that, we will forever be grateful. Darcy is an amazing asset to our community, both human and canine!"
